"Oh, you sweet zeppole"
December 20, 2022
A zeppole is an Italian pastry consisting of a deep-fried dough ball of varying sizes, typical of Southern Italy. This fritter topped with powdered sugar and filled with custard, jelly, cannoli-style pastry cream, or a butter-and-honey mixture is loved by all.
They created the zeppole to honor Father’s Day, which takes place on 19 March in the Roman Catholic Church. The premise ties the cake to Saint Joseph, who, besides being a carpenter, mastered the art of frying. Hence the name Feast of Saint Joseph, or Saint Joseph’s Day.
Nevertheless, of their Neapolitan influence, zeppoles are made throughout the region, with local variations, and turned into a popular dessert at Carnivals.
My family, we love to have the zeppole over the Christmas Holiday! So, from my family to yours, Buon Natale!
